The Democratic Party of Korea said about the special counsel for insurrection indicting People Power Party lawmaker Choo Kyung-ho and others without detention on the 7th, "The court must hand down a stern ruling that aligns with public common sense, based on evidence and the law."
Spokesperson Moon Dae-rim said at a signed briefing that day, "The special counsel confirmed that (Choo's conduct) constitutes serious criminal suspicions that threatened the constitutional order," adding the above.
Spokesperson Moon said, "The essence of the issue goes beyond dereliction of duty or inappropriate political behavior. It lies in paralyzing the National Assembly, the representative body of the people and the last bastion of democracy, and shaking the power order set by the Constitution," adding, "This can never be tolerated in a democratic country."
Moon referenced the court's dismissal on the 3rd of the arrest warrant the special counsel sought for Choo, saying, "Applying strict standards to ordinary citizens while repeatedly rendering lenient judgments only for high-ranking power holders seriously undermines trust in the judiciary."
Spokesperson Moon said, "Now it is the court's time," and added, "The Democratic Party urges the special counsel to make every effort to sustain the indictment and calls on the court to render a decision that meets the public's expectations."
