In a poll on suitability for governor candidates in the June 3 local elections next year, Gyeonggi Gov. Kim Dong-yeon ranked first with 20.2%, followed by lawmaker Choo Mi-ae with 13.2%. Kim also led with 35.0% in a survey limited to the Democratic Party of Korea's potential candidates.
According to a survey commissioned by the Gyeonggi Ilbo to Jowon C&I and Global Research on Nov. 29-30 of 1,000 Gyeonggi residents aged 18 or older, Kim received 20.2% in the governor suitability poll that included both ruling and opposition candidates. He was followed by lawmaker Choo Mi-ae with 13.2%, former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon with 10.7%, lawmaker Kim Eun-hye with 9.2%, former Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) Minister Won Hee-ryong with 6.2%, lawmaker Han Jun-ho with 6.1%, and lawmakers Kim Yong-min and former lawmaker Yoo Seong-min with 5.4%.
In the Democratic Party candidate survey, Kim also ranked first with 35.0%. He was followed by lawmaker Choo with 15.0%, lawmaker Han Jun-ho with 9.2%, lawmakers Kim Yong-min and Kim Byung-joo with 6.3%, and lawmaker Kang Deuk-gu with 1.5%, with 0.4% for other candidates. Those who said there was no suitable candidate or they didn't know came to 26.3%.
In the People Power Party candidate suitability survey, former lawmaker Yoo recorded 26.8%, former leader Han had 15.5%, and lawmaker Kim Eun-hye received 14.3%. They were followed by former Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Won Hee-ryong with 8.3% and former lawmaker Won Yoo-chul with 1.5%, with 0.5% for other candidates. Those who said there was no suitable candidate or they didn't know came to 33.2%.
The survey was conducted through computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI). The margin of error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate is 8.0%.
