The Ministry of National Defense said on the 2nd that it held the 2025 defense data and artificial intelligence (AI) committee chaired by Vice Minister Lee Du-hee.
About 30 key officials from related institutions, including the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) and the deputy chiefs of staff of each service, the deputy commandant of the Marine Corps, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses (KIDA), the Defense Agency for Technology and Quality (DTaQ), and the Korea Research Institute for defense Technology planning and advancement (KRIT), attended the meeting.
The Ministry of National Defense plans to select critical data that require proactive management and promote their use. It also plans to establish defense data management regulations to build a common understanding and concept of defense data throughout the entire military and to systematically carry out necessary management activities across the entire data life cycle.
Earlier, the Ministry of National Defense established a defense data promotion strategy in Jul. to strengthen data management and utilization capabilities and to realize advanced defense based on data.
Vice Minister Lee said, "Defense data are defense assets that serve as the material for artificial intelligence and big data analysis and play a key role across all areas of defense," adding, "The Ministry of National Defense will work with each service to implement high-level AI in the defense domain."
