Support for President Lee Jae-myung's job performance fell slightly.
In a poll Realmeter conducted for Energy Economy News of 2,538 people nationwide ages 18 and older from Nov. 24–28, 54.8% of respondents positively evaluated the president's job performance. That was down 1.1 percentage points from the previous week.
Those who negatively evaluated the president's job performance were 40.7%, up 0.2 percentage points from the previous week.
Realmeter said, "At the start of the week, there was a temporary bump in approval due to diplomatic outcomes from the G20 tour, but in midweek, the 15-year sentence sought for former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and the passage of the arrest motion for lawmaker Choo Kyung-ho spread under a narrative of political retaliation and oppression of the opposition, having a negative impact," adding, "A strong won-dollar rate and high interest rates also did not help approval."
In a party support survey of 1,012 adults ages 18 and older nationwide on Nov. 27–28, the Democratic Party of Korea was 45.6% and the People Power Party was 37.4%. The Democratic Party fell 1.9 percentage points, and the People Power Party rose 2.6 percentage points. The gap between the two parties narrowed to single digits.
The Rebuilding Korea Party recorded 3.1%, the Reform Party 3.5%, and The Progressive Party 1.4%.
Both surveys were conducted by automated telephone response on mobile phones.
The margin of sampling error for the president's job approval survey is plus or minus 1.9 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and for the party support survey it is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. The response rate for the president's job approval survey was 5.2%, and the response rate for the party support survey was 4.5%.
