Kim Jong-un, North Korea's Chairperson of the State Affairs Commission, reportedly visited again the construction site of a large-scale greenhouse farm in Sinuiju, North Pyongan Province, which is nearing completion. It is his fifth visit this year.
Korean Central News Agency reported on the 27th that the Chairperson inspected on the previous day the construction site of the Sinuiju comprehensive greenhouse farm, which has entered the "completion stage."
The agency said, "Thanks to the laborious dedication of the military units and the youth shock brigade members who have risen up in an honorable creative struggle and all-night battles toward the glorious party congress, construction of the Sinuiju comprehensive greenhouse farm is making strong progress at the 97% line of total building work."
It said trial runs are underway for the power and water supply and drainage systems of public buildings including greenhouse blocks, a vegetable science research center, an inn, convenience service facilities, a nursery, and a kindergarten, as well as for housing for hundreds of households.
After assessing the progress, the Chairperson said, "This island district, once called a barren land, has truly been transformed into a golden island with great potential to lead regional development and improve the material and cultural lives of local people."
North Korea is building a large greenhouse farm in the Yuihwa Island area of Sinuiju, which suffered massive flood damage last summer, at a scale 1.5 times the size of Yeouido (2.9 square kilometers).
After attending the groundbreaking ceremony in February this year, the Chairperson visited the Sinuiju comprehensive greenhouse farm construction site almost once a month in recent months, including in August, September, and October. The number of visits this year alone is five. North Korea is expected to tout the completion of this site as a core achievement of Kim Jong-un's regional development policy at the Labor Party plenary session next month and at the 9th party congress early next year.
