Minister Song Mi-ryung of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs met with consumer groups on the 17th and said, "We will rationally reduce distribution stages and restructure the distribution system around online wholesale markets to narrow price fluctuations."
The ministry held a meeting with leaders of 10 consumer groups, including the Korea Consumer Organizations Council, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the day. The government introduced its ongoing plans to overhaul distribution structures and stabilize supply and demand. The meeting was arranged to strengthen communication with consumer groups.
The ministry explained plans to improve the distribution structure for agricultural products. Consumer groups conveyed opinions related to price stability and consumer benefits. The Minister Song emphasized, "We will make sure consumers can purchase fresher agricultural products more reliably."
The Minister Song went on to note, "The active role of consumer groups is important for checking prices of agricultural and livestock products and spreading a culture of rational consumption," adding, "The government will faithfully reflect the opinions raised in the field in policy."
