The Democratic Party of Korea on the 16th urged a complete suspension of the Hangang Bus service, saying it puts the lives of Seoul citizens at risk.
The Democratic Party of Korea Oh Se-hoon City Administration Failure Normalization task force (TF) and the Seoul City Party New Seoul Preparation Special Committee held a press conference at the National Assembly that day and, regarding the Hangang Bus accident the previous day in which a boat got stuck on the riverbed and stopped, said this was a clear signal of what risks arise when the Seoul city government stacks up showy administration over citizen safety.
They said, "Despite repeated warnings, it is unclear why Mayor Oh is not suspending the Hangang Bus project," adding, "If the city is not holding citizen safety as collateral for showy administration, then what is it?" The Hangang Bus is said to have had a total of 16 accidents since its opening day.
The Democratic Party of Korea Oh Se-hoon City Administration Failure Normalization TF and the Seoul City Party New Seoul Preparation Special Committee called on the Seoul city government to disclose the results of its investigation into the causes of the Hangang Bus safety accidents that have occurred so far and how the city responded. They also demanded a complete overhaul of safety standards at each pier and the systems for facility management and emergency response.
That day, Democratic Party of Korea leader Jung Chung-rae shared on his Facebook page a news article about the Hangang Bus getting stuck on the riverbed and stopping, saying, "There is no administration more important than safety administration." Park Sang-hyuk, senior deputy floor leader for communication, also said, "Mayor Oh's incompetence and greed threaten citizen safety."
Earlier, the Hangang Bus got stuck on the riverbed and stopped while passing through shallow waters near Jamsil Pier the previous day. All 82 passengers on board the Hangang Bus at the time were rescued.
