The College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) question-setting headquarters said it designed the fifth-period second foreign language section of the 2026 CSAT, administered on the 13th, to evaluate "language-use ability to communicate in the relevant foreign language in everyday life and the ability to understand the culture of the regions where that foreign language is used."
It added that "the second foreign language subject used dialogues and descriptive texts that are frequently used in everyday life to help improve foreign-language communication skills."
For the Classical Chinese subject, it said the items were designed to evaluate "the ability to learn basic knowledge of Classical Chinese and apply it to reading Classical Chinese texts, the ability to learn Sino-Korean vocabulary and apply it in language use, and the ability to understand and apply the lives, wisdom, and culture of the ancients contained in Classical Chinese records."
It also said it "focused on enhancing language ability and liberal arts literacy, using Chinese characters and Sino-Korean vocabulary necessary for everyday life and for learning in other subjects."
This year's CSAT was administered on the largest scale in seven years. Based on the first period, 497,080 people took the test. Score reports will be distributed on Dec. 5.
