Kim Dae-ja, head of the National Institute of Technology and Standards at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, said on the 12th that "in a world changing fast, new rules will determine who thrives and who falls behind, and at the core of those new rules—the new normal—there are always standards."
At the "2025 advanced industry standards leadership forum general assembly" held at Hanyang Institute of Technology at Hanyang University in Seoul that day, Kim said, "as the age of AX (artificial intelligence transformation) gets into full swing, artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly converging across all industries," and stated accordingly.
Kim said, "standards have driven industrial development and economic growth by improving quality and productivity," and "competition over standards to secure leadership in advanced industry markets is fiercer than ever among major countries, including the United States, China and Europe."
Kim said, "to leap to become one of the world's top three in AI for Korea, the National Institute of Technology and Standards will actively push standard development for advanced industries centered on AI-converged sectors," and asked, "I ask for active participation in standardization activities from experts in each field, including industry."
He went on, "in December, the 'International AI Standards Summit,' jointly hosted by the world's three major international standardization organizations (ISO, IEC, ITU), is scheduled to be held," adding, "it will be an important opportunity for Korea to lead AI standardization."
The "advanced industry standards leadership forum general assembly" is an event to discuss the role of "standards" and policy direction in the process of securing super-gap technological competitiveness. Following last year, this is the second edition. This year's event is hosted by the National Institute of Technology and Standards at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, organized by the Korea Standards Association, the Korea Industrial Technology Association, and the Council of Deans of Korea Polytechnic Universities, and sponsored by ChosunBiz.
