Chinese President Xi Jinping, after wrapping up a Korea-China summit on the 1st, presented President Lee Jae-myung with Xiaomi smartphones and a set of the four treasures of the study.
President Lee and President Xi exchanged gifts after the summit held in the afternoon at Gyeongju National Museum. First, President Lee handed President Xi a bonbijatree Go board with a carved pedestal and a mother-of-pearl circular lacquer tray.
Touching the Go board, President Xi said, "It is crafted exquisitely. Very good. Thank you." Xi is known to be so enthusiastic about Go that he has taken separate private lessons from Nie Weiping, a 9-dan in China. President Lee is also a Go enthusiast.
President Lee presented Xi's wife, Peng Liyuan, with a silver-handled hot-water pot and a set of silver cups, as well as a nourishing cream and eye cream made by LG. Looking at the cosmetics, Xi joked, "Are these for women?" prompting President Lee to laugh.
President Xi gave President Lee two Xiaomi smartphones and a set of the four treasures of the study, including a jade inkstone and brushes. Handing over the Xiaomi smartphones, Xi said, "The display is a Korean product." President Lee joked, "Is the communications security strong?" and laughed, to which Xi shot back, "Check whether there is a backdoor or not." A backdoor refers to malicious code that circumvents security to extract information.
Xi also presented a set of Chinese teacups prepared by Peng Liyuan for President Lee's wife, Kim Hea-kyung. President Lee said, "Thank you for such a precious gift," and added, "Thank you, xiexie."
