President Lee Jae-myung on the 1st began his summit schedule with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who visited Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, in the afternoon.
According to Xinhua News Agency and other foreign media, President Lee personally greeted President Xi in front of Gyeongju National Museum, where the summit is being held, at about 3:30 p.m. that day.
After the official welcoming ceremony, the two leaders will begin the substantive summit.
The talks are expected to cover South Korea–China economic cooperation, restoring relations, and China's role in denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.
Time was also set aside to build rapport between the two leaders. President Lee presented President Xi, who visited Korea as a state guest, with a Go board made of bonbijah wood and a round mother-of-pearl lacquer tray as gifts.
