President Lee Jae-myung said that, just as Korea-Japan relations have advanced on the foundation of communication between the leaders of the two countries, he hopes to work together at all levels with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Japan's new Cabinet, starting with their first summit, to build future-oriented Korea-Japan relations.
The presidential office stated accordingly on the 30th, "President Lee held a Korea-Japan summit with Prime Minister Takaichi, who visited Korea on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. The two leaders exchanged views on the direction of the development of bilateral relations and communicated on regional affairs."
President Lee and Prime Minister Takaichi agreed to work so that Korea-Japan cooperation can further advance across fields such as advanced technology, economic security, and socioculture, based on active exchanges including shuttle diplomacy between the leaders. They also built a consensus that practical cooperation, which the peoples of both countries can feel, needs to be expanded.
The presidential office added, "President Lee noted that Korea and Japan are like neighbors sharing a front yard, and said that while squarely facing issues where there are differences between the two countries as they are, he expects more proactive communication and cooperation on matters that require future-oriented collaboration," and "the two leaders agreed to continue shuttle diplomacy and to meet and communicate frequently."
