The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said on the 30th that it ordered "recalls and other measures" for 63 products that failed to meet safety standards.
From July to October, the agency conducted a safety investigation of 1,100 products across 75 items, including children's textile products and batteries, which either have a high rate of noncompliance with safety standards or a high frequency of accidents such as fires and are designated and managed as priority items.
The investigation found that among children's products, ▲ children's textile products (15) that failed to meet the cord and drawstring standards ▲ toys (6) that exceeded the limits for hazardous substances such as lead, preservatives, and boron ▲ children's leather products (5) ▲ children's umbrellas and parasols (4) ▲ strollers (2) did not meet safety standards.
Among household goods that failed the safety investigation were ▲ eye massagers (4) that exceeded the allowable temperature for heating ▲ portable laser products (2) that exceeded the laser class ▲ roller sports protective gear (1) with inadequate shock absorption ▲ kick scooters (1) with inadequate brake performance.
Among electrical appliances were ▲ DC power supplies (2) that pose a fire risk due to failures such as excessive temperature rise and overcharge testing ▲ batteries (1) ▲ electric heating pads (1).
To block distribution of the 63 products subject to recall orders, the agency said it would disclose product information on the Product Safety Information Center and Consumer24. It also registered them in the Hazardous Product Sales Blocking System, which is linked to about 260,000 retail stores nationwide and online shopping malls.
Korea Agency for Technology and Standards Administrator Kim Dae-ja said, "We will thoroughly check whether recall operators implement recalls so that the products subject to recall orders are not distributed in the market," adding, "We will carry out the ongoing safety investigation of winter products without a hitch and announce the results in December."
