As President Lee Jae-myung is set to present a Silla golden crown from Gyeongju to U.S. President Donald Trump, who is visiting Korea as a state guest on the 29th, North Gyeongsang Province, host of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, has also prepared a special gift for President Trump.
North Gyeongsang Gov. Lee Cheol-woo appeared on YTN Radio's "Kim Young-soo's The Interview" that day and said, "We drew Trump's face on a moon jar and fired it," adding, "When we showed it to the U.S. ambassador, they said they liked it very much."
Lee also said they prepared apples that North Gyeongsang is famous for. He said, "We engraved President Trump's face on an apple, and there is also an apple engraved with our APEC," adding, "Doing that kind of work on apples takes a long time."
Lee also hinted that they prepared hanbok and "steel art" carved on a steel plate. He said, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it would be difficult to give it officially, and told us to present it at the local government level," adding, "We fully discussed it with the U.S. ambassador's side and plan to present the gifts."
Meanwhile, the presidential office prepared a model of a "Silla gold crown" for Trump. It is a special piece modeled after the ornate decorations unique to Silla crowns. It appears to reflect President Trump's taste for gold. Earlier, President Lee Jae-myung also presented Trump with a gold-colored turtle ship model during the Korea-U.S. summit in Washington in Aug.
