Prime Minister Kim Min-seok said on the 28th that "the summit to be held in Korea for the first time in 20 years (APEC) will be a venue for global economic cooperation and cultural exchange, and a historic stage for reshaping the world trade order."
At the 47th Cabinet meeting chaired at Government Complex Seoul on the day, Kim stated accordingly, saying, "The curtain has risen on Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit week."
Kim said, "With the status of the Korean Wave and K-culture rising worldwide, this (meeting) is a critical opportunity to show both the roots and the present of our culture," adding, "With a mature civic spirit and support befitting our national stature, let us together create a historic, gap-leading APEC."
He said, "Hosting the APEC summit is not the end but a new beginning," and added, "We must carefully prepare for the post-APEC phase, considering what to leave to the Republic of Korea and Gyeongju."
He went on, "We must draw the global trend, which is deeply immersed in Korea's cultural appeal, beyond Seoul and into the regions," and said, "With the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism at the center, the relevant ministries should accelerate efforts to foster inbound tourism zones on par with the capital region."
Kim also said, "With this week's comprehensive National Assembly inspections nearing completion, most of this year's inspections will be wrapped up," and added, "I ask each ministry to take the points raised by both the ruling and opposition parties during the inspections as the voice of the people, review them forward-looking, and actively accept them."
He added, "Starting next week, full-scale deliberations on next year's budget bill will begin," and said, "So that next year's budget bill can be handled smoothly solely from the perspective of the people and the national interest, each ministry should work closely with the National Assembly."
