Minister Kim Sung-hwan of the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment chaired a meeting with the wind power industry for the first time since the ministry's launch and said a pan-government task force for onshore wind power would be launched as soon as possible.
On the 22nd in the morning at the Han River Flood Control Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, the Minister held a meeting with the wind power industry and gathered opinions from the sector to accelerate the deployment of wind power generation.
At the meeting, attendees included turbine makers such as Doosan and UNISON; major equipment suppliers including Hanwha Ocean, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Seongdong Shipbuilding; and executives, staff, and experts from domestic and foreign developers such as SK Innovation E&S, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), KREDO, and GS Wind Power, as well as officials from wind power organizations.
At the event, the Minister said, "The climate ministry will move away from the regulation-centered role mainly handled by the former environment ministry and, with an emphasis on promotion, strive to become the lead ministry in the great transition to renewable energy as the protagonist of a green civilization."
He added, "Along with expanding the adoption of wind power generation, we will actively foster the related industrial ecosystem," and said, "For offshore wind, we plan to nurture it as a national growth engine by ensuring the successful settlement of leading new projects, and for onshore wind, we will promptly launch a pan-government task force chaired by the Minister to resolve the industry's permitting issues through a one-stop process."
The industry is set to convey on-the-ground perspectives and challenges of wind power generation at the meeting. The government plans to actively reflect industry feedback and quickly push ahead with the launch of a pan-government task force for onshore wind power; support for permitting of new offshore wind projects through a pan-government task force; and the enactment of subordinate statutes under the Special Act on Offshore Wind Power.
