Former President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is being held in pretrial detention at Seoul Detention Center, issued a message from prison saying, "The letters written in tears and the intercessory prayers from people I do not know are my strength."
Bae Ui-cheol, an attorney for the former president, posted on Facebook on the 13th, "I share President Yoon Suk-yeol's words for the Chuseok holiday."
The former president said, "During the long Chuseok holiday, I was in a 1.8-pyeong solitary cell where even exercise was permitted only once. But rather than thinking of it as prison, I was grateful to be allowed a place of prayer, and throughout the holiday I read the letters you sent and the Bible, meditated, and prayed."
He continued, "The letters written in tears, the intercessory prayers from people I do not know—everything becomes my strength and my shield," adding, "I am deeply grateful to the people."
He said, "The words of the Psalms, 'Your word is a light to my path,' lit up the darkness," and added, "In particular, I prayed earnestly to God, the sovereign of history, and to the Lord Jesus Christ so that young people, the future generation, would not let go of their dreams and hopes."
He added, "With truth and justice, and with faith, I pray that this land will stand up again—for the people and for a free Republic of Korea."
