Kim Jong Un, chairperson of North Korea's State Affairs Commission, met Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairperson of Russia's Security Council and chair of United Russia, and said, "This visit by the United Russia delegation will serve as a meaningful opportunity to more vigorously expand and develop Russia–North Korea relations, which have risen to new heights, into a strong and comprehensive strategic partnership and an alliance."
According to the Korean Central News Agency on the 11th, Chairperson Kim and Deputy Chairperson Medvedev met in Pyongyang the previous day and exchanged views on mutual concerns, including international and regional affairs. Medvedev visited North Korea to attend events marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party.
Chairperson Kim told Deputy Chairperson Medvedev, "I hope to continue strengthening cooperation between the two parties and to make interchanges and contacts in various fields even closer." In response, Deputy Chairperson Medvedev said, "The bravery and self-sacrifice displayed by Korean soldiers in the Kursk region liberation operation proved the solidity of the fraternal bonds linking the two countries, the special relationship of trust, and the invincibility of the blood-forged alliance," adding, "We will actively work to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two parties and the two countries."
The two also had lunch together. Chairperson Kim's one-on-one meeting with a foreign guest was the fourth with Deputy Chairperson Medvedev. Earlier, on the 7th, Chairperson Kim held talks with Laos President Thongloun Sisoulith, and on the 9th he met separately with To Lam, general secretary of Vietnam's Communist Party, and Li Qiang, China's No. 2–ranked official and premier of the State Council.
According to Russia's TASS and RIA Novosti news agencies, Deputy Chairperson Medvedev, after observing the military parade that day, told Russian reporters that he spoke with Chairperson Kim in a friendly atmosphere and conveyed greetings from President Putin. He also said he discussed Russia–North Korea cooperation and the tense global situation with Chairperson Kim, and expressed gratitude for North Korea's support for Russia's "special military operation" in Ukraine and the liberation of the Kursk region.
In particular, Deputy Chairperson Medvedev said of the parade that it was "very well prepared," noting that Pyongyang residents participated in the event and showed strong unity. He went on to say that the achievements of North Korea's military and in the field of military equipment were "very considerable," and that "North Korea's enemies should think three times before pressuring relations with North Korea."
Earlier, on the 9th, Deputy Chairperson Medvedev, who visited North Korea, held talks with Jo Yong Won, organizational secretary of the Workers' Party. At noon on the 10th, he toured the armament equipment exhibition "Defense Development-2025," where North Korea's ballistic missiles, drones, tanks, and self-propelled guns were presented. He also visited the Workers' Party Central Cadre School, the top educational institution where North Korea trains and retrains party officials.
