The People Power Party criticized that the Lee Jae-myung administration has remained unresponsive after North Korea unveiled its new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the "Hwasong-20," at a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Labor Party.
Chief deputy spokesperson Choi Eun-seok said in a commentary on the 11th, "North Korea unveiled the Hwasong-20. Calling it 'the strongest nuclear strategic weapons system,' it has embarked on an overt show of force," and noted, "In a situation like this, the National Security Council (NSC) would normally convene from early morning and the foreign and security ministries would be moving busily, but it is astonishingly quiet."
Choi added, "I wonder how President Lee Jae-myung watched this scene," and said, "I worry that he might have brushed it off lightly, holding popcorn and saying, 'North Korea is really good at this kind of thing; we should learn from it.'"
He went on, "Not only the president but also the prime minister, the Presidential Chief of Staff for Policy at the presidential office, and even the Democratic Party leadership are openly brandishing an anti-U.S. frame related to the tariff talks," and said, "When an alliance wavers, diplomacy loses its footing. It is time to stop the childish play of ideology, calling people 'alliance faction' or 'self-reliance faction.'"
Earlier, North Korea held a military parade at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang the previous day with State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un in attendance and unveiled the Hwasong-20. The (North) Korean Central News Agency described the Hwasong-20 as "the strongest nuclear strategic weapons system of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea."
