President Lee Jae-myung said on the 7th, "I am working with the resolve that, even if I have to 'lay bare my liver and gall' and endure finger-pointing and misunderstandings, I will not hesitate to do anything if it can add even a handful to people's lives."
After mentioning this in a post on Instagram and X (X, formerly Twitter) accounts on the morning of the day, the president added, "I once again promise to look after your lives today and people's livelihoods tomorrow with greater humility and greater care."
In relation to tariff talks with the United States, it appears he emphasized that, even if he has to "lay bare his liver and gall" as if bowing to President Donald Trump, he can never give up the absolute national interest.
It is also seen as implying that he will endure criticism arising mainly from the opposition over the controversy surrounding the taping of the cooking entertainment show "Please Take Care of My Refrigerator" amid confusion from the national computer network outage caused by a fire, since the intent was to promote K-food by carving out time during the biggest Chuseok holiday.
The president said, "As we face the holiday, I reflect once more that the greatest duty of a president is to carefully look after the people, who live facing different environments and circumstances in their respective places," adding, "As I said in this Chuseok greeting, the reality of people's livelihoods is by no means easy for fully enjoying the joy of the holiday. 'Nevertheless,' I hope it was a time when we could encourage one another with loved ones and talk about hope, and 'nevertheless,' a time when we could share courage together with smiles."
The president also posted several photos that appear to have been taken on the 4th during his Chuseok greeting, showing him with his wife, Kim Hea-kyung, both dressed in hanbok in shades of light purple.
