Yoon Ho-jung, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (Minister of the Interior and Safety), said on the 3rd, "We will treat the seven-day holiday as the golden time for restoring information systems and accelerate recovery with an extraordinary resolve."
The Deputy Minister said at a headquarters meeting he chaired that morning at the government complex in Seoul, "About 800 specialists and public officials have been deployed on-site at the National Information Resources Service (NIRS) and are devoted to recovery work," noting this.
He went on, "To enable overall restoration and the transfer of the 7-1 computer room system—which suffered severe fire damage—to the Daegu center, we have begun procedures to secure reserve funds, including discussions with the presidential office and fiscal authorities," adding, "We plan to push the recovery speed to the maximum."
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, of the 647 total information systems whose operations were halted by the National Information Resources Service fire on the 27th, about 110 have been restored. The recovery rate stands at about 17.8%.
Minister Yoon said, "We will keep the emergency system running to restore information systems and hold headquarters meetings and conduct on-site inspections during the holiday period except on Chuseok day," adding, "We will also move to fundamentally strengthen the stability of government services."
Minister Yoon also emphasized, "During the Chuseok holiday, the government will respond thoroughly to ensure there are no gaps in the provision of administrative services and safety management so that the public can feel at ease."
