The military authorities assessed that North Korea is mobilizing tens of thousands of people to prepare a military parade ahead of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party on the 10th.
Lee Sung-jun, spokesperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said at a regular briefing on the 2nd, "North Korea is showing signs of preparing for a military parade with tens of thousands of people, and the military is keeping a close watch," adding, "There are indications of movement of vehicles and some military equipment, but no weapons systems worth describing have been observed yet."
The timing of North Korea's military parade has not yet been specified. Deputy Minister Lee said, "It is more likely to be held at night," adding, "But whether it will be around 12 a.m. or at 8 p.m. or 10 p.m. requires further observation."
There is also talk that the Hwasong-20, a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) under development by North Korea, may be unveiled at this parade.
On Sept. 9, 2023, the 75th anniversary of the regime's founding, North Korea held a military parade. It was the most recent parade. That parade continued from the evening of Sept. 8 into the early morning of the 9th.
