President Lee Jae-myung will hold a summit with Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru in Busan on the 30th. Ishiba will pay an official visit to Korea for two days and one night.
Presidential Office Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung announced Ishiba's schedule in Korea at a briefing on the 26th and said, "The two leaders are scheduled to have a summit and a dinner in Busan."
Spokesperson Kang said, "This visit by Prime Minister Ishiba follows the 'shuttle diplomacy' resumed in Aug., under which the two leaders agreed to meet in Korea in the near future," adding, "Through this meeting, the Korea-Japan leaders will further solidify the foundation for future-oriented cooperation between the two countries."
Last month from the 23rd to the 24th, President Lee visited Japan and proposed to Prime Minister Ishiba that they meet in a provincial city rather than in Seoul. It has been 21 years since a Japanese prime minister visited a city other than Seoul for a summit, since 2004. At that time, Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi Junichiro visited Jeju Island for a summit with President Roh Moo-hyun.
