On the 23rd, while an incident occurred in which a KF-16 fighter jet veered off the runway, the cause was found on the 24th to be damage to the nose wheel tire caused by foreign object debris.
The Air Force said in a notice that day, "The pilot detected an abnormal condition of the aircraft and, after declaring a rejected takeoff, attempted to stop the aircraft according to procedure, but the tire damage made it impossible to maintain directional control, causing the aircraft to veer off the runway."
As it was confirmed that the incident was not caused by an aircraft defect, the Air Force plans to resume flights of fighter jets, including the KF-16, starting on the 25th.
Earlier, the Air Force said that at about 4:38 p.m. the previous day, one KF-16 at the Chungju base left the runway while conducting a takeoff roll for training. The fighter came to a stop on adjacent ground after leaving the runway, and the pilot also exited the aircraft safely, according to reports.
