The presidential office expressed a welcome over the agreement for U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to meet during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang.
On the 20th, Kang Yu-jeong, Spokesperson for the presidential office, said, "Our government has maintained the position of supporting multifaceted diplomatic communication among member states on the occasion of the APEC summit," adding, "It is welcome that the U.S.-China summit will be held in Korea."
Kang added, "We welcome and look forward to President Trump's visit to Korea on the occasion of the APEC summit," and said, "We will continue specific communications with the United States."
On the 19th (local time), President Trump said in a post on the social media platform Truth Social, "We have agreed to meet with President Xi at the APEC summit being held in Korea," adding, "Both sides are looking forward to the meeting at APEC."
