Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, on the 20th, regarding the so-called Cho Hee-dae–Han Duck-soo meeting rumor, said, "The Democratic Party brought a fabricated audio file to the National Assembly and staged a nationwide scam against all citizens."
On this weekend day at the National Assembly, Jang volunteered an unscheduled press briefing and said this, calling it "a shameless serious crime born of a vast conspiracy to seize control of the judiciary."
Regarding the fact that those involved have all officially denied the allegations raised by Democratic Party lawmakers Seo Young-kyo and Boo Seung-chan about a meeting, Jang argued, "If they had succeeded in forcing the chief justice to resign, it would have opened the prelude to a one-man dictatorship in the Republic of Korea," and "They are trying to dismantle the opposition, the prosecution, and the judiciary, which are obstacles to a one-man dictatorship, and finally amend the Constitution to put a roof on a one-man dictatorship system."
He added, "One pillar of a one-man dictatorship is seizing the judiciary, and that is why the Democratic Party is acting with frenzy to drive out the chief justice."
Regarding the Democratic Party's push to establish a court division dedicated to insurrection cases, he said, "Now they are having convulsions trying to insert a cancerous mass called a special insurrection panel inside the judiciary."
Jang stressed, "It has become clear that everything—from increasing the number of Supreme Court justices and driving out the chief justice to trying to set up a special court division—fits within the blueprint to move toward a one-man dictatorship through this operation."
He went on, "Looking at these things, it is clear in the end that the Democratic Party is an anti-constitutional political terror group," adding, "The truly unconstitutional party that should be dissolved is the Democratic Party."
Jang also said about the special counsel's search and seizure of his own party's membership list, "If we remain silent in the face of the lawless special counsel's execution of a warrant, the rule of law in the Republic of Korea will die," adding, "We will certainly file a complaint."
Regarding the Democratic Party's claim that "if the People Power Party is linked to the Unification Church, that is grounds for dissolving the party," Jang said, "I will take that to mean the Democratic Party refuses to recognize followers of a particular religious organization as citizens," adding, "The Democratic Party is very pitiful for exploiting religion for politics and using it as a tool for divide-and-rule."
