Lee Jae-myung, the president, will send a thank-you SEOHAN ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION to corporations that have actively moved to hire young people.
The president posted an article on Facebook on 19 with the title "Youth jobs, the government and corporations as one team," saying, "At the Cabinet meeting on 16, I emphasized that corporations' efforts are needed to solve youth employment issues," and added, "In response, Samsung, Hyundai Motor, SK, LG, POSCO, Lotte, Hanwha, and other leading domestic corporations have successively unveiled plans for new hires."
He went on to call it "truly welcome and fortunate news," noting, "They say 40,000 jobs will be created this year, which will be a great source of hope and courage for our young people preparing for employment."
Earlier, Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik held a briefing that day and said, "In response to the president's request, as of yesterday Samsung 12,000 people, SK 9,000, Hyundai Motor 7,200, Hanwha 5,600, LG 3,700, POSCO 3,000, Lotte 2,000, and HD Hyundai 1,500 will be hired this year."
The president said, "This decision will serve as a primer for improving the economic structure," adding, "I express deep gratitude to the corporations for joining in solving a national challenge. Going forward, we will open a path of growth where young people, corporations, and the nation can 'win-win.'"
The president also posted a follow-up article titled "I want to be remembered as the president who gave hope back to young people." The president said, "In the end, the starting point of every problem is a lack of opportunity. As opportunities have shrunk due to low growth, war remained instead of competition, and young people who should love each other have ended up divided between men and women and fighting," adding, "Even if you fail or are eliminated, you should be able to try again. Only a country where young people are not driven into extreme competition can achieve growth and innovation."
He continued, "If I have one wish, it is to be remembered as the president who opened a hopeful future for young people," emphasizing, "A country where people do not give up their dreams for the future, a country where one can stand on one's own with dignity through one's own efforts, and a country where young people can determine the future of the community — considering the great achievements the people of the Republic of Korea have made, it is difficult but a task we can certainly accomplish."
