The defense vice ministers of Korea and the Philippines met on the 15th to discuss defense industry and defense cooperation.
The Ministry of National Defense said that on this day Vice Minister Lee Doo-hee hosted the "4th Korea-Philippines Defense Cooperation Joint Committee" at the Ministry of National Defense complex in Yongsan with Irineo Espino, senior Vice Minister of the Philippine Department of National Defense.
At the committee meeting that day, the defense vice ministers of Korea and the Philippines exchanged views on the regional security situation and sought ways to advance bilateral cooperation in a variety of areas, including combined training, personnel exchanges, and defense industry and logistics cooperation.
In particular, Vice Minister Lee expressed appreciation for the signing in Jun. of the second contract to export an additional 12 FA-50 indigenous multirole fighters to the Philippines.
He also asked for continued interest and support so that outstanding Korean corporations can continue to participate in the Philippines' military modernization projects going forward.
The Philippines will assume the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations next year. The vice ministers agreed to work together to strengthen Korea-ASEAN defense cooperation based on the active defense cooperation between Korea and the Philippines.
