The Democratic Party of Korea on the 12th decided to file a complaint with the National Assembly Ethics Committee against People Power Party floor leader Song Eon-seok, who is embroiled in a "foul-language controversy," and to submit a disciplinary motion.
Park Su-hyeon, Democratic Party Spokesperson, met with reporters after the party's supreme council meeting that day and said, "We once again condemn the outrageous remarks by Floor Leader Song Eon-seok and Supreme Council member Kim Jae-won," adding, "We will file with the ethics committee today."
Spokesperson Park noted, "This issue is not a mere political back-and-forth but a grave problem that shows the People Power Party's collective mindset regarding the unconstitutional, illegal martial law of 12·3, which plunged Korea's democracy into crisis, shocked the public, and wrecked Korea's economy." Park continued, "Without overcoming this, we cannot heal the public's wounds or move into the future," emphasizing, "The Democratic Party cannot stand by."
The Democratic Party leadership strongly criticized Floor Leader Song's remarks and demanded that he step down as floor leader and be expelled from the party.
Representative Jeong Cheong-rae said at the supreme council meeting, "The outrageous remarks by Floor Leader Song are something the Democratic Party will never overlook or let fade away," urging, "Apologize to the public as soon as possible, frankly and sincerely."
Supreme Council member Jeon Hyun-hee raised her voice, saying, "Floor Leader Song, who effectively made an unprecedented outrageous remark abetting treasonous murder, must immediately apologize to the public and the Democratic Party," adding, "It is only right that he not only step down from the People Power Party leadership but also be permanently expelled from Korea's political sphere."
Supreme Council member Kim Byung-joo also strongly criticized, saying, "The person who is the floor leader of the No. 1 opposition party hurled a curse at the president of Korea and the ruling party leader to 'please just die,'" adding, "Anyone who prays for another person to die should be isolated not only from politics but also from society." He then demanded that People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk apologize for Floor Leader Song's remarks and expel Song from the party.
Earlier, on the 9th, Floor Leader Song sparked a foul-language controversy during Representative Jeong Cheong-rae's policy speech for the negotiating bloc. When Representative Jeong said, "If the 'Noh Sang-won notebook' had succeeded in becoming reality, President Lee Jae-myung and I would not be in this world," Floor Leader Song was reported to have retorted, "If only that had happened."
