On the 10th, when injuries occurred from a mock round explosion at an Army artillery unit in Paju, a practice mine detonator went off at an Air Force unit in Jeju Island, injuring seven people.
According to the Air Force on the 11th, the previous day at the Seogwipo Air Force unit in Jeju, a practice detonator exploded, and six reservists undergoing reserve training and one instructor (a noncommissioned officer) sustained minor injuries such as abrasions and tinnitus and were treated at a nearby civilian hospital.
It was reported as an accident that occurred during base defense training for reservists specializing as military police. The unit believes the accident happened when a practice detonator measuring 6 centimeters in length and 6.5 millimeters in diameter exploded, and it is investigating the exact circumstances through the inspector general's office of the higher unit.
This year, the military has continued to see incidents and accidents, including the Air Force KF-16 fighter's bombing of a private home, the Army reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) "Heron" colliding with a helicopter during landing, and, on the 2nd, the death of an Army captain following the unauthorized removal of a firearm and live ammunition.
