The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said on the 10th it will jointly launch the "Manufacturing Artificial Intelligence Transformation (MAX) Alliance" to overcome the manufacturing crisis.
The alliance will include more than 1,000 corporations, research institutes, and academia, including major corporations such as LG Electronics, Hyundai Motor, Korean Air, and KAI. The government expects this to create more than 100 billion won in added value in manufacturing AX fields such as autonomous vehicles, humanoids, and AI factories by 2030.
The alliance will be organized into 10 sectors: ▲ AI factories ▲ AI manufacturing services ▲ AI distribution and logistics ▲ autonomous vehicles ▲ humanoids ▲ autonomous ships ▲ AI home appliances ▲ AI defense industry ▲ AI bio ▲ AI semiconductors. In each sector, representative corporations, AI development corporations, parts and materials corporations such as semiconductors and batteries, and universities and research institutes will develop AI models and related products and services through data sharing and joint technology development.
The government will strengthen tailored support to promote cooperation among corporations. Starting in 2027, it will prioritize the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's AI-related budget for key projects and support large-scale financing by linking the National Growth Fund with public-private funds. Through this, it plans to secure resources needed for the spread of AI factories, the development of AI-applied products, and the establishment of industry-specific AI models.
It will also support infrastructure such as manufacturing field demonstration spaces, virtual simulation environments, and industry-specific test beds for corporations to use, and will cooperate with related ministries and the private sector to secure computing resources such as GPUs and data centers. It also plans to explore ways to link with the National AI Computing Center being promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The government will also move to provide institutional support, including identifying and improving regulations and establishing standards. It is also pushing to enact the "Industrial Artificial Intelligence Transformation Promotion Act," which includes fostering AI specialist corporations, supporting cooperation projects, standardizing and utilizing data, and regulatory innovation.
Minister Kim Jeong-gwan of the industry ministry said, "Building on manufacturing competitiveness, we will maximize cooperation synergies among corporations and leap to become the No. 1 country in the world in manufacturing AX by 2030."
