The People Power Party criticized the government reorganization plan announced by the Lee Jae-myung administration. In particular, they pointed out that transferring the nuclear power industry management function from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment is a 'Phase 2 of nuclear power phase-out' following the Moon Jae-in administration. Regarding the inclusion of the prosecutor reform that the Democratic Party of Korea strongly promoted in the reorganization plan, they assessed that President Lee Jae-myung is experiencing a political lame duck.
Song, the floor leader of the People Power Party, said at a supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 8th that "the government reorganization plan of the Lee Jae-myung administration is, in a word, a destruction of government organization," adding, "I wonder if it is acceptable to recklessly destroy the basic order of national institutions."
Floor leader Song strongly criticized the abolition of the prosecutor's office and the establishment of the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment. He specifically pointed out, regarding the transfer of the nuclear power industry function to the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, that "they are attempting to dismantle the nuclear power industry." He emphasized that the abolition of the prosecutor's office, despite the government's request to moderate the pace, was an "unrestrained experiment on the executive branch," as the Democratic Party's representative, Jeong Cheong-rae, pushed ahead.
Floor leader Song said, "The Lee Jae-myung administration is now also attempting to dismantle the nuclear power industry. They claim to transfer portions related to the construction and operation of nuclear power from the nuclear power industry to the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment," adding, "This can be interpreted as 'Phase 2 of nuclear power phase-out' following the Moon Jae-in administration, which destroyed the nuclear ecosystem."
He continued, "I worry that the abolition of the prosecutor's office may signify the beginning of a political lame duck for the president just 100 days into his term. The president requested sufficient public discourse, and Minister Jeong Seong-ho advocated for precise reforms that minimize public inconvenience," noting, "However, it seems that the Democratic Party's representative, Jeong Cheong-rae, has been relentless in pressing forward."
Regarding the abolition of the prosecutor's office, he stated, "The Special Counsel and the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials are grasping investigative and prosecutorial powers while the prosecutor's office is being inappropriately divided, which seems like a political revenge against the prosecutor's office that has investigated people affiliated with the Democratic Party. If the Ministry of Interior and Safety takes control of the police, the National Investigation Headquarters, and then the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency, it will truly become a monstrous ministry."
Floor leader Song also stated, "They say that the Ministry of Economy and Finance will separate its budget functions to establish a Budget Office and transfer it to the Prime Minister's Office. Ultimately, it appears that the intent is for the presidential office to take control of the budget authority," adding, "The Democratic Party claims that it will force through this hastily drafted government reorganization plan on the 25th. The public is questioning what the intent of rushing through it, just two weeks after the announcement, is."
