The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs recently announced on the 5th that it has decided to supply government-managed rice for processing to alleviate concerns about production and export disruptions of rice processed products due to a shortage of raw rice in rice processing companies. The ministry plans to supply sufficiently within the 50,000-ton range requested by the rice processing industry, reflecting actual demand.
To relieve consumer burdens, since the 1st of last month, a promotion has been underway in collaboration with large retailers providing a 3,000 won discount on rice per 20 kg, but in consideration of the recent rise in rice prices, the discount will be increased to 5,000 won starting from the 11th.
A Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs official noted, 'While continuously monitoring the effects of the 30,000-ton government lending and the trends in the rice market, we will come up with additional measures if necessary,' adding that 'this additional supply is expected to contribute not only to smooth production activities but also to have a positive effect on the rice supply and demand.'
