Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who visited the National Assembly, criticized, saying, "Looking at the Democratic Party of Korea, it reminds me of a runaway train," and added, "Throughout historical precedents, a runaway train inevitably derails and capsizes."
Mayor Oh attended the "Seoul forum looking forward to tomorrow" held at the National Assembly on the afternoon of the 3rd, and met with reporters, saying, "If the government and ruling party continue to show excessive behaviors like this, a harsh check from the citizens will begin," and added, "Many citizens have started to express concerns after seeing a series of behaviors, including the establishment of a special court for insurrection trials."
Jeon Hyun-hee, the chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Korea's special committee on comprehensive response to special investigations, also stated her position on the demand for an investigation by the special prosecutor regarding whether Mayor Oh and other People Power Party provincial leaders participated in insurrection. Mayor Oh said, "I still vividly remember that on the day of the martial law, local leaders should be the first to oppose and retract the martial law," adding, "Nonetheless, seeing someone making claims that contradict the facts and practically conducting a special prosecutor investigation under orders, I cannot shake off the thought that this person is a big problem."
On this day, lawmakers from the People Power Party and the Reform Party were present, generating even more interest. The forum hosted by People Power Party lawmaker Kim Jae-seop included members from the party such as Ahn Cheol-soo, Bae Hyun-jin, and Jo Jeong-hun, and also attended by the leader of the Reform Party Lee Jun-seok and floor leader Cheon Ha-ram. Several local party committee chairs from the People Power Party in Seoul were also present.
This was essentially a starting point for the People Power Party's efforts leading up to next year's local elections. Kim Il-ho, chairman of the People Power Party's Seoul chapter, stated, "Starting today, the People Power Party's Seoul chapter will begin a relay forum to change the lives of Seoul citizens, focusing on transportation, welfare, and housing, starting with the Han River."
With the leadership of the Reform Party attending such an event, there are predictions that the People Power Party's reformists may enhance the possibility of collaboration with the Reform Party. Reform Party leader Lee Jun-seok remarked, "We are trying to pay attention and contribute to the many changes that Mayor Oh has implemented in Seoul," while floor leader Cheon Ha-ram noted, "66.6% of the Reform Party's lawmakers attended this event."
Mayor Oh also emphasized that the People Power Party and the Reform Party must join forces. He said, "Whether it's through unification with the Reform Party or an electoral alliance, I have no change of thought about needing to check the runaway train united," adding, "In light of the local elections approaching in 9 months, I expect that cooperation with the Reform Party will yield the most effective checks on the government and ruling party."
