As the People Power Party establishes itself under the leadership of Representative Jang Dong-hyuk, former Representative Han Dong-hoon, a presidential contender, is also cautiously beginning his political activities. Observers speculate that he will gradually broaden his scope by continuing meetings with pro-Han (Han Dong-hoon) faction members, making a full appearance in next year's local elections. However, some have advised that he needs to present a 'vision of rational conservatism' to expand his political standing beyond internal party dynamics.
On the 3rd, political insiders reported that former Representative Han met with Woo Jae-jun, a pro-Han member and the Youth Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, on the 31st of last month. Woo noted on Facebook, "Today, I had the chance to meet former Representative Han after a long time and convey my greetings," adding, "I will always work together to ensure that the People Power Party and our country can take the right path."
Former Representative Han plans to increase his meetings with pro-Han faction leaders, starting with Woo. However, it seems that he will not immediately thrust himself into the spotlight. A pro-Han lawmaker stated, "I believe meetings between former Representative Han and the pro-Han faction will continue, and I understand that discussions are still ongoing." They added, "Currently, I'm advising restraint in messaging and suggesting that he observe the political landscape."
In fact, former Representative Han turned on a YouTube live broadcast on the 30th but only spoke about congratulating winners and comforting losers in relation to party matters. He stated, "I would like to congratulate the newly elected people, including the new Representative Jang Dong-hyuk. I hope the party will lead in accordance with common sense and public sentiment." He encouraged supporters by saying, "I hope everyone will stay strong and move forward."
Within political circles, there are assessments that former Representative Han's decision not to run in the Aug. 22 national convention has restricted his political standing. Politics ultimately relies on continuously exposing oneself to the media and delivering messages, which is why it is noted that former Representative Han missed the chance to appear on the national convention stage. Additionally, his actions are viewed as possibly inciting conflicts through social media regarding the 'anti-impeachment and pro-impeachment' division.
Conditions for former Representative Han's political comeback include establishing a 'political vision' and his relationship with Representative Jang Dong-hyuk's leadership. As Representative Jang reaches out to the moderate conservative base, there is potential for former Representative Han to prove the feasibility of reforming the conservative party's structure, thereby succeeding in his political resurgence.
A senior member of the People Power Party said, "While differing opinions can exist within the party, it is true that former Representative Han has, in fact, exacerbated tensions within the party. As a prominent figure, he now needs to show a willingness to help organize the party's ranks without hesitation."
Lee Joon-han, a professor of political science and diplomacy at the University of Incheon, commented, "Until now, former Representative Han's demeanor has been closer to that of a commentator than a politician. Now, he must focus on creating a political vision and leadership that can guide the party and society to build his influence and make a comeback as a politician."
