The Fair Trade Commission announced on the 2nd that it has identified 10 wedding preparation service companies that claimed 'the number one in the country' and 'lowest price guarantee' without objective evidence and has issued corrective orders and warnings. As the number of consumer inquiries in this area is increasing each year, the intention is to rectify false and exaggerated advertisements to create a rational choice environment.
According to the Fair Trade Commission, four companies, including iFamilySC, DirectComz, J Wedding, and K&M Corporation, received corrective orders. Six companies, including Very Good Wedding Company, iNiwedding Networks, Weddex Wedding, Wedding Book, Wedding Cloud, and Wi Network, were warned.
These companies exaggerated their scale in online advertisements and websites by claiming 'number one in the country for three consecutive years' and 'the largest number of partners in the industry,' or used baseless expressions such as 'the largest wedding festival in Korea' while holding wedding fairs.
Some companies advertised 'no penalty,' yet imposed penalties for contract termination, or advertised raffle prizes but did not deliver them. Furthermore, instances have also been confirmed where staff wrote articles according to internal guidelines and posted them on social media as consumer experience reviews.
As wedding preparation services are a one-time service, there is a significant information gap between consumers and businesses. The actual number of consultations received increased from 1,005 in 2022 to 1,330 in 2024.
A Fair Trade Commission official stated, "The scale of the business and the terms of the transaction have a direct impact on consumer choices," adding, "It is meaningful to correct false and exaggerated advertisements to encourage the provision of accurate information."
