This year, in the newly established public-led offshore wind power bidding, all four fixed offshore wind power sites (689 megawatts) that participated in the bidding were awarded.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy noted that the Korea Energy Agency (KEA) confirmed the results of the offshore wind power competitive bidding for the first half of the year on the 1st and notified the individual bidders.

The public-led offshore wind power bidding capacity was announced to be around 500 MW, with four sites (689 MW) participating in the bidding, all of which were selected. The general bidding capacity was announced to be around 750 MW, but both sites (844 MW) that participated were not selected.

This offshore wind power competitive bidding announcement was implemented while strengthening security and supply chain evaluations, following the 'offshore wind power competitive bidding roadmap' announced in August last year and the 'public-led offshore wind power bidding promotion plan' announced in March this year. The government's commitment to consider enhancing industrial competitiveness in the process of expanding offshore wind power is reflected.

A Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy official said, 'We recognize the importance of wind power as a key execution area of the new government's national project for a renewable energy-centric energy transition and plan to prepare major policies such as strategies to accelerate the expansion of offshore wind power and the next wind power competitive bidding roadmap.'

Meanwhile, regarding the unselected capacity in this half-year's bidding, plans are to conduct competitive bidding announcements for the second half and subsequent years, comprehensively considering future bidding demand. In particular, the second-half announcement is set to reflect on-site opinions through meetings with stakeholders, such as wind power operators, and the improvement of the competitive bidding system.

The results of this offshore wind power competitive bidding will be posted on the Korea Energy Agency (KEA) Renewable Energy Center's website at 5 p.m. today.
