The People Power Party has decided not to participate in the Victory Day parade to be held in Beijing, China, on the 3rd of next month.
According to the People Power Party on the 30th, Representative Kim Seong-won was initially scheduled to attend the Victory Day parade with National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik but canceled his attendance due to a decision by the party leadership.
Representative Kim is serving as the vice chairman of the Korea-China Members of Parliament Association. It appears that there will be no People Power Party lawmakers making the trip to China, as the party has not selected a replacement for Representative Kim.
The People Power Party reportedly made the decision to not participate upon hearing the news that Kim Jong-un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, would be attending the Victory Day parade.
Accordingly, it appears that National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik and Democratic Party of Korea lawmakers Park Ji-won, Kim Tae-nyeon, Park Jeong, Hong Gi-won, and Rebuilding Korea Party lawmaker Kim Jun-hyung will attend the Victory Day celebrations. They are also members of the Korea-China Members of Parliament Association.
Meanwhile, this year's Victory Day is expected to be Kim Jong-un's first multilateral diplomatic stage. Russian President Vladimir Putin is also expected to attend the Victory Day parade. If a trilateral meeting between Kim Jong-un, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Putin is realized, it will mark the first summit of the three countries of North Korea, China, and Russia.
