The Democratic Party of Korea reaffirmed its commitment to push forward the reforms and livelihood tasks of the Lee Jae-myung government united as a 'one team' without wavering during the lawmakers' workshop on the 28th, compared to this year's regular National Assembly.
The Democratic Party held a lawmakers' workshop in preparation for the first regular National Assembly of the Lee Jae-myung government at the Paradise City Convention Center in Incheon, Yeongjong-do, at 2 p.m. that day. Lawmakers gathered starting 30 minutes before the event. They coordinated their outfits in white tops in advance to present a 'one team' appearance.
First, Representative Jeong Cheong-rae took to the podium. He noted, "The success of the Lee Jae-myung government and the end of internal strife are the tasks and goals of the Democratic Party at this year's regular National Assembly."
Representative Jeong welcomed President Lee, who returned from a trip to the United States early that morning at Seongnam Seoul Airport, stating, "I congratulate you on your overwhelming success," adding, "Although the President looked very tired and weary, he smiled brightly. This Korea-U.S. summit will be recorded as the most successful meeting among recent Korea-U.S. summits."
He further emphasized, "The tasks we must undertake in this regular National Assembly, such as reforming the prosecution, media reform, judicial reform, and reforming party member sovereignty, are historic tasks that must be accomplished without a hitch, without wavering, and without dissonance."
He added, "In this process, the party, government, and the ruling alliance must unite firmly as a one team, one voice and move forward together." This statement appears to be aware of the recent expressed differences between the party and government regarding prosecution reform centered on the separation of prosecution's investigative and prosecutorial powers.
Regarding the People Power Party, Representative Jeong stated, "While advocating Yoon Ah-gain, they have reverted to Yoon Seok-yeol's party and have gone back to being the party of internal strife," and stressed that "We must recognize the formation of the frontline between those who defend the constitution and those who destroy it, and between those who protect democracy and those who undermine it, and not let our guard down." He continued, "Please unite fully so that we can pass laws one by one according to the time schedule we have set for the regular National Assembly."
Also, the floor leader Kim Byung-ki emphasized, "The concrete achievement of the people's sovereignty government lies at the center of the party, government, and ruling alliance's one team spirit."
He highlighted the strategy for the regular National Assembly, saying, "We must more conclusively support the national policy direction and implementation of national agenda of the Lee Jae-myung government," adding, "Through this, we must strengthen our government's achievements and expand the perceptible indicators of livelihood recovery."
He added, "We must complete the cabinet to solidify the framework of national governance. We must support the full launch of the Lee Jae-myung government through laws such as the Government Organization Act and the Law to Eradicate Public Institution Land Grabbing. We must accomplish the reform tasks such as prosecution reform and eliminating misinformation without wavering."
At the workshop, which switched to a closed session, the first session on 'Countermeasures for the Regular National Assembly' will feature Moon Jin-seok, the chief of the National Assembly Operations Department, presenting the operational plan for the regular National Assembly, and Han Jeong-ae, the chair of the Policy Committee, presenting the major legislative tasks for the regular National Assembly.
In the second session titled 'Policy Operating Plan of the Lee Jae-myung Government,' Kim Yong-beom, Director of the Presidential Office's Policy Planning Office, will explain 'Policy direction and operating plan of the Lee Jae-myung government,' while Ha Jeong-woo, Chief of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Future Planning at the Presidential Office, will present on 'Preparations for Global AI Competitiveness.'
Afterwards, lawmakers will conduct group discussions on the regular National Assembly counter-strategies by standing committee.
