The People Power Party set up a meeting to strengthen its resolve for a lending struggle ahead of the regular National Assembly session in September. The newly launched party leadership recently expressed its determination by repeatedly using the word 'struggle'. Additionally, to prevent the Democratic Party of Korea, led by Chairperson Choo Mi-ae of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, from pushing through legislation, they appointed Na Kyung-won, a five-term lawmaker, as the committee's coordinator.
The People Power Party held the '2025 National Assembly Member Retreat' on the afternoon of the 28th at the Incheon International Airport Corporation's Aviation Training Institute. The retreat, which is scheduled to run for two days until the 29th, was organized to enhance the party's capabilities ahead of the regular National Assembly session in September, featuring guest lectures from external figures and breakout discussions by standing committees. The theme of this retreat is 'Stay awake, contemplate, solve: the public ON'.
The party leadership urged lawmakers to strengthen their 'lending struggle' before the retreat officially began. Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk and floor leader Song Eon-seok used the word 'struggle' a total of eight times in their opening remarks. Given that internal conflicts within the party were highlighted during the recent party convention process, the lawmakers coordinated their outfits in white shirts and reiterated their commitment to unity.
Jang emphasized, 'Before us lies oppression, repression, hardship, and tears. The People Power Party must now struggle and innovate,' stating, 'To prevent the state from being dismantled and the mishaps of the Lee Jae-myung administration, we must struggle and innovate.'
He added, 'I hope the retreat becomes a place where we resolve to achieve innovation through sacrifice. I hope it turns into a departure ceremony going to battle to give hope to the people, to fight against the Lee Jae-myung administration.' He stated, 'I will stand at the front, ready to fight, even if it means death.'
Floor leader Song stated regarding the Democratic Party's rejection of the People Power Party's Human Rights Commission nominee the previous day, 'This should be seen as denying the very existence of the opposition party, and we must fight back vigorously.' He added, 'Please discuss in depth how we will conduct our lending struggle, including the upcoming confirmation hearings for the Minister of Education and the Minister of Gender Equality and Family.'
He further stated, 'Due to the yellow envelope law, problems have arisen with Hyundai Motor, Hanwha Ocean, and GM, and we must also strongly resist these issues.' He urged, 'I hope everyone will unite closely to combat the ruling party's one-party dictatorship and legislative monopoly.'
The People Power Party announced that Na Kyung-won would serve as the coordinator of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee. It is customary for a second-term lawmaker to hold the committee coordinator position. Considering that Na was a five-term floor leader during the Liberty Korea Party period, her appointment as committee coordinator is seen as an 'over-spec' case. However, it seems to take into account that the committee chairperson for the upcoming regular National Assembly session will be Choo Mi-ae from the Democratic Party, who is a six-term lawmaker.
Yoo Sang-beom, the People Power Party's deputy floor leader, noted, 'Many may wonder how someone who has served as a five-term floor leader could take on the coordinator role, but now we need to break the mold. It is time to enter battle mode, regardless of experience and the situation.'
