Minister Jeong Seong-ho said on the 25th, "I have long felt that leaders in Washington, including U.S. President Donald Trump, have a somewhat distorted perception of the current Democratic government and President Lee Jae-myung."
During the full meeting of the Special Committee on Budget & Accounts, Minister Jeong answered when Reform Party lawmaker Cheon Ha-ram referred to President Trump's social media (SNS) posts and asked, "Have you communicated with the U.S. side regarding the special counsel and the investigation into former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife?"
Minister Jeong said, "Personally, it's difficult to disclose, but I have continuously communicated with many people in Washington from various fields," adding, "I have made very active efforts to clarify regarding the distorted perception," and also stated, "This is not just a problem for the Ministry of Justice, but an issue that the entire diplomatic and security line needs to work on together."
In response to the question, "If you knew about the distorted information from the U.S. side, shouldn't you have communicated more actively?", he replied, "That seems to be somewhat outside the role of the Minister of Justice."
Nonetheless, he said, "However, I have conveyed various situations I heard from Washington officials to many places within the presidential office, and I believe the head of the National Security Office, the chief of staff, and the Prime Minister are somewhat aware of it."
On the day before the Korea-U.S. summit, President Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, "What is happening in South Korea right now? It looks like a purge or a revolution." He added, "In such a situation, we cannot do business there," and stated, "I will meet the new president at the White House today."
