Newly appointed representative Jang Dong-hyuk of the People Power Party stated that he will unify the 107 members of the National Assembly belonging to his party. He also proposed a plan to establish the People Power Party as a policy-oriented party and to secure public sentiment in the Chungcheong region to counter the government of Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party of Korea. He reiterated that if any disturbances arise that hinder the party's unity, there will be decisive action regarding the individuals involved.
On the morning of the 26th, Representative Jang held a press conference at the National Assembly, stating, "I will dedicate myself to innovating the party while moving into the future with the support of the people." He added, "I will not stop and will continue to innovate the party. We will show the appearance of a united opposition party that fights effectively."
Representative Jang emphasized the 'unity of purpose' he has consistently promoted during the party convention. This means that unifying the members of the National Assembly is a priority not only for legislative lending struggles but also for solidarity with right-wing civic organizations. He explained that if there are individuals or forces that hinder the process of solidarity, decisive action will be necessary. However, he did not mention what specific punishments such 'decisive action' would entail.
Representative Jang stated, "If we cannot unite in the National Assembly, I think solidarity with the free right-wing citizens outside will be impossible," adding, "If disturbances continue in the National Assembly, and this is tolerated and ignored, proper solidarity with citizens will not occur. If it becomes obstructive, decisive action is necessary, and that is my consistent position."
When asked, 'Does decisive action mean punishment such as expulsion or suspension of party membership?' he responded, "I'll say it again; I have said that I will take decisive action against those who depart from the united front and undermine the party from within," explaining, "I have never specified anyone from any faction."
There was considerable interest in the top committee member appointed by the party leader. Earlier, Jeon Han-gil, an instructor at Korea University who is a supporter of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, said during a YouTube broadcast, "Top member? If it's Kim Moon-soo or Jang Dong-hyuk, one top member can be appointed." Additionally, Representative Jang had previously stated during a debate that he would select Jeon as a candidate for the next by-election, rather than former leader Han Dong-hoon.
Representative Jang mentioned, "There has been no special decision regarding appointments yet. I do not intend to make appointments in isolation; I will discuss them with various party members and the leadership who have gone through elections together," adding, "I will consider who the right individuals are to implement what I have promised so far."
He emphasized, "The fact that the people did not give a majority to Lee Jae-myung in the last presidential election reflects the public sentiment that the People Power Party should properly check the Lee Jae-myung administration as the opposition party," stating, "Nominations will be made fairly according to principles and standards, and I will create a system that allows competent individuals who can serve properly to receive nominations as quickly as possible."
In response to the question, 'Does he plan to meet President Lee Jae-myung and Democratic Party representative Jeong Cheong-rae?' he stated, "As the leader of the opposition party, I do not intend to turn a blind eye to politics," but added, "However, for true cooperation to occur, there must be a balance of power. Only when the opposition party properly fulfills its role and raises the approval ratings of the People Power Party, while the ruling party and government see a decline in their ratings, will a balance of power be achieved."
