Prime Minister Kim Min-seok said on the 22nd, "The government will significantly expand renewable energy such as solar and wind power and will quickly establish a dedicated industrial complex for RE100 (100% renewable energy)."
On the same day, Prime Minister Kim attended the "Global Cooperation Conference on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth" held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno, Seoul, and noted, "The new government has announced plans to achieve both carbon neutrality and economic growth through an energy transition centered on renewable energy."
Prime Minister Kim emphasized, "The energy consolidation connecting all of Korea will serve as the foundation for environmentally friendly economic growth, promoting decarbonization technologies and the development of new industries."
At the same time, he explained, "Korea will closely cooperate with the international community for a green transition," adding, "The government established a strategy for promoting Green New Deal official development assistance in 2021 and is continuously expanding green official development assistance (ODA)."
Prime Minister Kim stated, "We are strengthening contributions to international organizations such as the United Nations, Green Climate Fund, and Global Green Growth Institute for greenhouse gas reduction and climate adaptation," adding, "Corporations will also play an active role as providers of eco-friendly decarbonization solutions based on their technological capabilities."
Regarding the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Brazil this November, Prime Minister Kim said, "Countries must submit climate response plans, including national greenhouse gas reduction targets for 2035."
He added, "The government is also preparing challenging and achievable goals," expressing hope that with the active cooperation of all countries, the Climate Change Conference will yield significant results.
