Vice Minister Kim Nam-joong of the Ministry of Unification said on the 22nd, "We will surely restore the inter-Korean relations, which have reached a zero state over the past six years," adding that "it will be a long process of patience."
On the same day, Vice Minister Kim said at a congratulatory speech at the Unification Future Forum held by the Korea Unification Association at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, "The government will not sit back and wait," revealing this.
He emphasized that "the proactive measures for peace on the Korean Peninsula taken by the Lee Jae-myung administration are not actions that favor one side or are taken considering anyone, but are for the stability and prosperity of both the North and the South," urging that "we must build a tower of trust step by step with patience."
Kim Byeong-dae, head of the Unification Policy Office at the Ministry of Unification, introduced plans to push forward various policies, including the establishment of the 'inter-Korean economic community plan' under the theme of "efforts to create opportunity spaces for the transition of the 'Korean Peninsula risk' to the 'Korean Peninsula premium' amid changes in domestic and international circumstances."
He also stated that to ensure a virtuous cycle of peace and economy, he would establish a so-called "future vision for peaceful economy on the Korean Peninsula," saying, "In developing peace-economic special zones, we will design special zone models linked to new industries that break away from existing industrial complex models, considering future-oriented inter-Korean industrial cooperation and industrial advancement."
He also revealed plans to develop the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) into a site for "peace tourism on the Korean Peninsula."
