On the 21st, Member of the Democratic Party of Korea Kang Deok-koo stated regarding former Rebuilding Korea Party leader Cho Kuk, who is continuing his public activities after the special pardon on Liberation Day, that 'a little more time for self-reflection and introspection is needed.'
On the same day, Kang noted on Facebook that 'as someone who visited former lawmaker Cho and was among the first to suggest the pardon, his current demeanor is perplexing,' adding, 'I worry that this appearance might be seen by the public as that of a hero.'
He said, 'Former lawmaker Cho was a victim of prosecutorial dictatorship, and his family suffered greatly, with the penalties being too harsh. Therefore, special pardons and reinstatement were carried out,' but added, 'that does not mean everything is justified.' He continued, 'At least, this does not seem to be the right appearance now. It does not align with widespread public sentiment,' and he asked for patience until they can be humble.
Before the special pardon on August 15, Kang publicly suggested the pardon for former leader Cho Kuk, stating on Facebook, 'He and his family have already paid a harsh price.'
