In a train accident that occurred on the Gyeongbuk Cheongdo line, which resulted in 7 casualties, Han Moon-hee, the president of the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), expressed his intention to take responsibility and resign.
According to KORAIL on the 21st, President Han said he feels a deep sense of responsibility for the accident and submitted his resignation to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. However, the ministry has not yet finalized the acceptance of the resignation.
Han Moon-hee was appointed in July 2023 during the Yoon Suk-yeol administration. His term was set to last until July 2026.
Earlier, around 10:50 a.m. on the 19th, an accident occurred between the Namseonghyeon Station and Cheongdo Station when a Mugunghwa train (No. 1903), which had departed from Dongdaegu Station and was heading toward Jinju in Gyeongnam, struck workers who were moving near the tracks, resulting in 2 fatalities and 5 injuries.
