Ahead of the South Korea-U.S. summit, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jung-kwan and Deputy Minister Yeo Han-koo will visit the United States one after the other.
According to the government, Deputy Minister Yeo departed for Washington, D.C. on the 20th to discuss follow-up measures on tariff negotiations with a representative from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR). Minister Kim is also scheduled to leave for the U.S. on the 22nd to meet with Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. Accompanying this business trip are the Deputy Minister for Trade, the Director of the Nuclear Power Industry Policy Bureau, and the Director of the Shipbuilding Division.
After the summit, Minister Kim plans to visit Hanwha's Philadelphia shipyard with President Lee Jae-myung. President Lee will travel from Washington to Philadelphia on the 26th to inspect the shipyard, and then he will embark on his return trip the same evening, arriving in Seoul in the early hours of the 28th.
Meanwhile, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power President Hwang Ju-ho will also visit the United States during the South Korea-U.S. summit. President Hwang is reported to discuss cooperation between the U.S. and South Korea on nuclear power with the U.S. nuclear industry and to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU). Attention is also focused on whether discussions will be held regarding the establishment of a joint venture with Westinghouse.
