During the final TV debate among the People Power Party leadership candidates, the topic of 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' (Kedehun) came up.
At the sixth convention candidate debate of the People Power Party held at the TV Chosun studio in Jung-gu, Seoul, candidate Ahn Cheol-soo asked candidate Kim Moon-soo, "I feel like you've only discussed serious topics during the TV debate period, so I will ask a light question. Have you heard of Kedehun?"
Candidate Kim asked, "What are you talking about?" To which candidate Ahn responded, "There is a drama called K-Pop Demon Hunters on Netflix that is gaining phenomenal popularity worldwide. It's a representative of K-content; don't you know this?" and asked again.
In response, candidate Kim said, "I don't know much about it. Please introduce it." Candidate Ahn explained, "It's a story where girl groups representing good fight and win against male groups representing evil. This is a really important work that reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts despite being an animation, demonstrating how famous it is."
Candidate Ahn emphasized, "I mentioned this because the leader of the first opposition party should be aware of such contemporary trends."
When candidate Kim said, "I hope that candidate Ahn will introduce more of these and that we can watch them together," candidate Ahn shot back, "You need to make a lot of efforts to be able to access these kinds of things."
Entering its ninth week, the Netflix original animation Kedehun has been fluctuating between first and second place in the movie sector viewership, and it recorded No. 1 overall among all Netflix English and non-English films from Nov. 11 to Nov. 17.
Two months after its release, it has achieved over 20 million views every week and is on the verge of becoming the highest-rated film in Netflix history. Additionally, the original soundtrack (OST) of this movie, 'Golden,' has topped the Billboard Hot 100 main single chart (for the week of Aug. 16), becoming a global sensation.
