Minister Choi Hwi-young noted that discussions are underway with the tax authorities regarding the introduction of a tax credit for game production costs.
On the 19th, Minister Choi responded to inquiries from People Power Party lawmaker Jeong Yeon-wook during a full meeting of the National Assembly Culture, Sports, and Tourism Committee, stating, "We are actively negotiating with tax authorities to introduce a tax credit for game production costs and will strive to ensure it is incorporated during the process of confirming national agenda items."
The government is supporting tax credits for production costs of video content to promote Korean wave culture. Recently, the Ministry of Economy and Finance announced a tax reform plan that also established a tax credit for webtoon production. However, the game industry was excluded from the scope of content tax credits.
Lawmaker Jeong has previously proposed a revision to the "Special Tax Treatment Limitation Law" that grants tax credit benefits for this year's game content production costs and investments in cultural industry-specialized companies.
