Democratic Party of Korea leader Jeong Cheong-rae visited the memorial of victims who died in the Mugunghwa train accident that occurred in Cheongdo County, Gyeongsangbuk-do, on the 19th.
Democratic Party of Korea leader Jeong, who visited Gyeongju to inspect the site of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, moved to Cheongdo County in the evening and visited the funeral hall set up at Cheongdo Daenam Hospital.
At this meeting, Jeong expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and stated that he would thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident. After offering condolences, Jeong told reporters, "The Lee Jae-myung government has emphasized safety in industrial sites, but it is regrettable and embarrassing that such a tragic accident has occurred again."
He continued, "I hope the bereaved families will express anything they want, and I would like the relevant officials to be designated to hear everything they wish as much as possible," adding, "I urged the government to thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident and relay the findings to the bereaved families and to the public."
Earlier, during his visit to Gyeongju, Jeong stated after hearing about the accident, "It is a perfect human error," and promised, "As the ruling party, we will thoroughly ascertain why the accident occurred and assist those who have passed away and those who were injured."
The visit to the funeral hall included the party leadership members Jeon Hyun-hee, Kim Byung-joo, Hwang Myeong-seon, and Seo Sam-seok, as well as Secretary-General Jo Seung-rae, and Ministers of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yun-duk and Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Young-hoon.
